KC Epilepsy and Mental Health.

About The Founder

Kadeisha Corbin

I have had epilepsy for seven years now. Epilepsy is caused by irregular brain activity and can develop at any age. Seizures may be caused by head injury, tumor, stroke, or an infection causing epilepsy. An epileptic seizure might not occur until years after the injury, but in all cases, a seizure is a common symptom. In some cases, there are unknown as of mine. After being diagnosed with epilepsy in June of 2010, I went into major depression and starting having major anxiety as well. I didn't know how to cope with this new illness and life-changing experience in my life. One in 10 young people experienced a period of major depression and anxiety in their lifetime. My belief is a new life, new power, healthy living, increased efficiency, and greater happiness!

Every Day Begins A New Day!

Our Goals

Our goals is to give back in communities and to charities. Inspire hope into people through therapy, counseling, and healthy living. Giving them new chapters of practical techniques for successful living that works. My belief is new life, new power, increased efficiency, and greater happiness. I believe with breaking the worrying habits, healthier eating habits, achieving a relaxed life. We can break the barrier through fundraiser and community support.

Awareness

Events Throughout the year KCEMH plan various events to promote epilepsy and mental health awareness. Please check our event calendar for event activities and locations.

The mystery of epilepsy

Epilepsy is a common condition, affecting about 1% of the population. This is about 20 times more common than multiple sclerosis. In the United States, about 2 million people have epilepsy. In fact, about 9% of Americans will have at least one seizure during their lives. Epilepsy can begin at any age.

Epilepsy is a chronic disorder, the hallmark of which is recurrent, unprovoked seizures. A person is diagnosed with epilepsy if they have two unprovoked seizures (or one unprovoked seizure with the likelihood of more) that were not caused by some known and reversible medical condition like alcohol withdrawal or extremely low blood sugar.

The seizures in epilepsy may be related to a brain injury or a family tendency, but often the cause is completely unknown. The word "epilepsy" does not indicate anything about the cause of the person's seizures or their severity.

Many people with epilepsy have more than one type of seizure and may have other symptoms of neurological problems as well. Sometimes EEG (electroencephalogram) testing, clinical history, family history, and outlook are similar among a group of people with epilepsy. In these situations, their condition can be defined as a specific epilepsy syndrome.
